Harrison Smith Both Teacher & Student of Vikings Defense

September 7th, 2017

He has five NFL seasons and two Pro Bowls under his belt, but “Harry the Hitman” hasn’t stopped hitting the books.

Harrison Smith has been a key cog in Minnesota’s defense from day one, starting 66 of 67 games played since being Custom Nationals Jersey drafted 29th overall in 2012. League stats have credited Smith with 404 tackles (305 solo), 28 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 12 interceptions, returning four of them for touchdowns.

But while many of his younger teammates look up to Smith as a mentor both on and off the field, the safety said he continues to be a student himself.

“[I try] to pass on the knowledge and experience that I’ve gained,” Smith said earlier this spring. “[But] I’m still trying to steal some from Terence [Newman] and the coaches and everybody.”

Smith’s dedication to the mental part of the game combines with his physicality to make him one of the NFL’s most dynamic safeties.

Following a 2016 performance in which he played 14 games and recorded 91 tackles (league stats), 69 solo stops, and a pair each of passes defensed, fumble recoveries and sacks, Smith’s peers voted him in at No. 74 on the NFL’s Top 100 list. In the reveal segment, respect rained from teammates and opposing players alike.

“If you try to run the ball to Harrison’s side, he will track you down, and he will stop you in your steps,” said cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, who shared the defensive backfield with Smith from 2014-16. “He’s got a very high I.Q. of the game, he understands coverages, he understands schemes.”

Packers receiver Davante Adams – whom Smith helped hold to 70 yards over two games against the Vikings in 2016 – said the safety has “definitely caused us problems with disguises and things like that” in division-rival matchups.

“He’s a real smart, instinctive guy,” Adams said.

It’s a quality that’s well-recognized and appreciated not only by fellow players but by Smith’s coaches, as well.

The 2017 seasons will mark his fourth under the guidance of Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer, Defensive Coordinator George Edwards and defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, all of whom have nothing but positive things to say about No. 22’s approach to the game.

Edwards said Custom Chargers Jersey that Smith, along with cornerback Xavier Rhodes, are detail-oriented players who “carry out what we’re trying to do schematically, understand the different things we do from week Personalized 49ers Jersey to week” and have the ability to adjust on the fly when necessary.

As the team prepares to report for Vikings Training Camp, Gray said he’s grateful to have Smith in the DB room – as both a teacher and a student.

“You’re talking about a guy who’s very established, he understands what he’s supposed to do. He can help other guys get better, and he’s trying to get better,” Gray said. “And that’s the good thing about Harrison – he doesn’t think, ‘I’ve arrived.’

“I’ve been fortunate enough to coach guys like him, who say, ‘Coach, I’m coming to work every day, I’m giving 100 percent, I’m going to do my job, and I’m going to try to do it to the best of my ability,’ ” Gray continued. “And when you get guys like that, that have ability to help other guys, that’s when you get better.”

Vikings Offensive Josh Donaldson Womens Jersey Approach is Evolving Under Shurmur

August 31st, 2017

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings offensive approach in 2016 evolved considerably for multiple and substantial reasons.

Quick Rewind

Teddy Bridgewater’s season-ending knee injury prompted a trade for Sam
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 20 Josh Donaldson Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey Cheap Bradford.

Adrian Peterson’s torn meniscus in Week 2 shelved him for all but one more game the rest of his final seas Kevin Pillar Jersey on in Purple.

A bevy of injuries also struck the offensive line, forcing eight different combinations of starting five linemen and five different players at left tackle.
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey.

The Vikings entered training camp with Norv Turner in his third season as offensive coordinator and promoted Pat Shurmur to interim offensive coordinator for the final nine games of the season after Turner’s resignation.

Minnesota Head Coach Mike Zimmer lifted the interim designation from Shurmur, brought in Kennedy Polamalu to coach running backs, Clancy Barone to coach tight ends and slid Kevin Stefanski from running backs to the quarterback room, where his tenure as a Vikings assistant coach began in 2009.

The Vikings replenished the tackle position early in free agency by signing Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers and bolstered the running back position by signing
Youth Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey Latavius Murray and drafting Dalvin Cook.

Play

Bradford and the offensive players have benefited from a full offseason program together, working to lay a foundation for when the veterans report to Mankato for Verizon Vikings Training Camp on July 26.

A fan question about the Vikings offensive identity in 2017 led off the most recent “Pick 6 Mailbag” with Vikings.com’s Mike Wobschall.

A run-heavy team? A pass-prominent team?

The goal is to be able to run the ball when you want to run the ball and throw the ball well when you want to throw the ball, keeping in mind the importance of possession to help a stalwart defense that has continued to improve under Zimmer.

One NFL adage is, “Throw to score. Run to win.”

After ranking fourth in the NFL with 2,211 rushing yards in 2015, the Vikings fell to last in the category last season, finishing with 1,205 yards on the ground.

Minnesota turned to the passing game much more in 2016. Bradford set a franchise record with 395 completions Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey and an NFL record with a completion percentage of 71.6. The 395 completions outnumbered the Vikings rush attempts by 15 and their number of completions Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale in 2015 by 101.

Fast forward

Look for the Vikings to try to avoid having to be too reliant on one more than the other going forward but also try to deliver more chunk plays than a year ago.

The Vikings had just seven rush plays of 15 or more yards in 2016, including scrambles of 15 and 24 yards by Bradford. Five of those rushes occurred after Shurmur became interim offensive coordinator.

Minnesota had 53 passes of 20 or more yards, which included 16 of 31 or more yards last season. Nine of those occurred in Shurmur’s nine games.

In Shurmur’s first year as offensive coordinator in Philadelphia (2013) where he helped with Chip Kelly’s fast-tempo attack, the Eagles set an NFL record with 99 plays of 20 or more yards.

Philadelphia had five different players with at least one rush of 21 or more yards and nine players with a reception of 31 or more yards. LeSean McCoy led the NFL with 1,607 yards to score his second All-Pro designation and second of five Pro Bowls, and DeSean Jackson caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine scores to garner his third selection to the Pro Bowl.

That amount of proliferation on offense may not be best suited for the Vikings, but doses of explosive plays could help.

That 2013 Eagles team put up 442 points, but it also gave up 382 points. Philadelphia had an average time of possession 2:06, compared to 2:44 by opponents.

The 2016 Vikings finished with 327 points for, compared to 307 points allowed. Minnesota’s average time of possession was 2:49, compared to 2.42 by opponents.

The sequel

Kyle Rudolph and Bradford are two of the best Vikings to offer a preview of what to expect from Shurmur.

Rudolph was working directly with Shurmur as his tight ends coach this time a year ago and went on to set a Vikings tight ends record with 83 receptions in 2016. He also led the team with seven touchdown receptions last season, pushing his career total to 29, the most by a Minnesota tight end.

“I think one of the things that Pat Shurmur does well, and is what we have kind of got to as he took over last year, was recognizing what we do well and trying Kevin Pillar Youth Jersey to make things simpler for us, yet more complex to the defense,” Rudolph said last month as the Vikings wrapped up their offseason program. “If we can do things that we do well, let’s just do those things more often, and I think that is one of the things that we got to last year, and we were able to see our offense kind of kicking up strides there to the end and culminating that last game against the Bears.”

Minnesota closed the season with season bests of points for (38) and rushing yards (124), got a season-long rush of 36 yards by Jerick McKinnon and scored on five of its first eight possessions of the game.

The Vikings took plenty of deep shots during the offseason program. Some were successful, and some were broken up by defenders. Others resulted in pass interference calls, which can also be helpful.

“Those are plays that we have to hit in order for us to be able to do everything that we want as an offense,” Rudolph said. “Making plays down the field is definitely part of it.

Bradford was drafted by the Rams when Shurmur was in his second season as offensive coordinator. The duo also worked together in Philadelphia in 2015 before the surprise reunion between the two in Minnesota last September.

Bradford talked about increased interaction between Zimmer and the offense Josh Donaldson Womens Jersey this offseason and how he’s been able to see Shurmur have time to put more of his stamp on the offense.

“Obviously last year, I think, was a little unique to everyone, so I think [Zimmer] was just trying to help give me some space to just allow me to spend time with Norv [Turner] and with Pat [Shurmur], just get used to the offense and try to figure out what we are doing,” Bradford said. “This year we have had a lot more conversations, and it has been great.”

Lunchbreak: Reiff-Boone Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey Could be Key Combo for Vikings O-Line

August 31st, 2017

After a 2016 season in which the Vikings offensive line was ravaged by injuries
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey and inconsistency, the unit has a new look heading into 2017.

Minnesota signed tackles Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers during free agency in addition to drafting center Pat Elflein (70th overall) and guard Danny Isidora (180th Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey overall).

Tim Yotter of Viking Update caught up with Reiff during minicamp and talked to him about acclimating to a new team and specifically with gua Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale Alex Boone. The two are expected to line up alongside one another on the left side. Yotter wrote:

Reiff, a South Dakota native, is soft spoken, preferring to let his play do the talking. Boone, [an Ohio] native, conveys the nasty throwback attitude of NFL linemen of the past, playing hard and talking in sentences laced with expletives.

“He’s Kevin Pillar Jersey great. He brings a lot of energy, a good person to work next to. Plays hard,” Reiff said of Boone. “I’m just excited for this year.”

Reiff admitted that “it takes a while” for offensive linemen to get used to playing next to each other, but has no doubt it will come together by the start of the regular season.

[…]

Ultimately, the Reiff-Boone combination on the left side of the line will be one of the biggest keys to the offense improving in 2017, and they will be judged not by their differing personalities but by their performance on the field.

Boone referred to Reiff as “a very reserved guy, quiet, about his business.”

“I think that’s one thing I like about him the most – when we’re in there, we’re all business,” Boone said. “When we’re out of it, we’re kind of messing around.

USA TODAY lists Vikings secondary in top 10

In an ongoing series ranking the top position groups across the NFL, USA TODAY recently tabbed Minnesota’s secondary as the League’s seventh-best.

Nate Davis wrote the following of the unit:

S Harrison Smith has all-pro ability if he can remain healthy. CB Trae Waynes needs to elevate his play to the level of fellow former first rounder Xavier Rhodes. Ageless CB Terence Newman remains a key performer.

Coming in at 1-3, respectively, were the Seahawks, Broncos and Giants. Davis called the Jaguars at No. 4 a potentially “surprising” pick but said Jacksonville – whom the Vikings defeated last season – has been effectively bolstering its secondary Josh Donaldson Womens Jersey.

The Patriots and Ravens were listed at fifth and sixth, respectively.

The only other NFC North squad included by Davis was Detroit, who landed at 17th-best with safety Glover Quin and cornerback Darius Slay.

Former Viking tops list of long snappers

Keeping with his “best all-time” lists throughout the offseason, NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt opined the top seven long snappers in League history.

Brandt tweeted the rankings on Thursday, topping the list with former Vikings long snapper Cullen Loeffler.

Originally signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2004, Loeffler spent his entire 11-season career in Purple. He played 171 games, missing only the final five games of the 2011 season when he was placed on Injured Reserve.

Blue Jays Custom Jersey Jose Bautista Ready For Any Role With Vikings

July 6th, 2017

Vikings cornerback Terence Newman showed last season that age is just a number, as he was one of the NFL’s most consistent Custom Blue Jays Jersey players at age 38.

The 2003 first-round pick will turn 39 years old in September and is coming off a season in which he had 45 total tackles (according to coaches’ tally) with three tackles for loss and an interception.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press recently chatted with Newman about his expectations for the upcoming season.

The cornerback with 41 career interceptions said he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the Vikings make a deep playoff run.

With Newman showing no signs of slowing down, the Vikings must figure out how to best use him. In his two previous seasons, he was the starting left cornerback. The Vikings might think Trae Waynes, their first-round draft pick in 2015, is ready to start there. Troy Tulowitzki Jersey

If that becomes the case, Newman could replace Captain Munnerlyn — who signed with Carolina as a free agent — as the nickel back. Newman said he’s been rotating with Mackensie Alexander throughout spring drills on the first team, and he was in that spot during an organized team activities Russell Martin Jersey open to the media last Tuesday.

“I’ve played both sides at cornerback, safety and Kevin Pillar Jersey nickel since I’ve been here, so I’m comfortable wherever they put me,” Newman said. “I don’t care what my role is as long as I have a role.”

Newman, who is entering his third season with the Vikings and ninth underHead Coach Mike Zimmer, said he is still driven to play on football’s biggest stage.

Newman’s primary motivation is to win a championship ring, something he never has come close to doing. In nine seasons with the Cowboys, three with the Bengals and two with the Vikings, he has appeared in eight playoff games — and been on the winning side just once.

“My ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl, and that’s why I’m still playing,’’ Newman said. “I’m grateful that I’m still playing at this age. I’ve been blessed.”

Brooks: Cook could have big impact as rookie

With training camp on the horizon, Bucky Brooks of NFL.com took a look at how a handful of offensive rookies could fare in their first season.

Brooks examined the best and worst case scenario for the rookies and included Vikings running back Dalvin Cook on his list.

Brooks noted Josh Donaldson Jersey Cook, the 41st overall pick in April’s draft, could be an early candidate for a major rookie award.

It’s uncommon for a second-round pick to be viewed as a frontrunner for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, but that’s the case with Cook, who is poised to serve as the Vikings (top running back). The electric back is an explosive inside-outside runner with home-run ability every time he gets the ball in his hands. He is a Blue Jays Jersey Red natural pass catcher capable of taking screens and swing routes the distance in the passing game. As the Vikings retool their offense around the strengths of Sam Bradford’s game (quick-rhythm thrower), Cook could blossom into a versatile star in an attack that is dynamic and explosive in 2017.

The worst-case scenario Brooks had for Cook was that he splits time with fellow running backs Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon instead of seizing the top role.

But Brooks expects big things for Cook, as he projected the running back to have 1,250 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns Jose Bautista Jersey, while adding 35 receptions for 300 yards and two scores.

Joe Carter Jersey Blue Jays Learning in Understudy Role Helping Safety

July 6th, 2017

Kevin Pillar Jersey

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – From signing with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent to receiving some first-team reps during Organized Team Activity practices, the first leg of Anthony Harris’ NFL journey has been an interesting one.

When Harris looks back over the past two-plus Joe Carter Jersey years, he describes the ride as long but enjoyable.

“It’s just been fun each year building off of each [previous year],” Harris told Vikings.com.

That’s exactly what the safety has done.

The Vikings signed Harris after a four-year campaign at Virginia in which he recorded 289 tackles (145 solo), 6.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and 11 interceptions. Harris spent the majority of his rookie season on Minnesota’s practice squad, but his number was called in Week 13.

Harris was activated to the 53-man roster to support a Minnesota defense depleted by injuries. In his first NFL game, he took the turf as a starter and had eight tackles in a Russell Martin Jersey narrow loss to Arizona. Over the final four games of the 2015 regular season, Harris made two starts and tallied 18 tackles (coaches’ tally) and two passes broken up.

The following season, Harris started a Jose Bautista Jersey career-high three games and played in all 16 contests. Primarily playing a key role on special teams in addition to flashing on defense, Harris totaled 39 tackles, a pass broken up and his first career fumble recovery.

At Jacksonville in Week 14, Harris started in place of an injured Harrison Smith. En route to a Vikings win, he made seven tackles, including a crucial stop on third-and-1 that held the Jaguars to a field goal to close out the second quarter.

Following the game, Harris said he approaches every opportunity as one that he can learn from, adding that “you just take those steps and continue to progress.”

Now heading into year three in Purple, Harris maintains that same mentality.

“Being a big contributor on special Josh Donaldson Jersey, and then seeing some playing time, I’m just trying to build off what I’ve done here and just go into the season continue to try to contribute to the organization,” Harris said.

Harris has earned a reputation for being a student of the game, a player who puts just as much effort into the playbook and team meetings as he does on the field.

In addition to studying the defense, Harris studies his colleagues.

One Custom Blue Jays Jersey teammate Harris keeps a constant eye on is Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler and aggressive playmaker.

“Harrison’s a very smart player,” Harris said. “He’s a team player. So a guy like that – a Pro Bowler, very athletic, a lot of experience – you try to pick his brain as much as you can.

“There’s times in practice where I’m watching his reps, seeing where his eyes are, seeing some of his movements, asking him questions about different things that our defense is doing and how he responds Blue Jays Jersey Red against certain offenses,” Harris continued. “He’s a big help.”

The 25-year-old is equally grateful to be learning under the guidance of Vikings defensive backs coach Jerry Gray.

According to Harris, Gray has come alongside him since day one, demonstrated confidence in him and the other players in the position group.

“Coach Gray is a great coach,” Harris said. “The whole time, the whole process, he’s been trying to … help me get better each day. Everybody in the room, he’s working with them, whether you’re a starter down to the guy who just came in as the new guy.

“So the entire time that I’ve been here, he’s pushed me to get better each day and not be complacent Troy Tulowitzki Jersey where I am,” Harris added. “I thank him a lot for that, and I just continue to work.”

Toronto Blue Jays Canada Dad Jersey 2017 Strengths of the Rebuilt O-Line

Besides overall improved health, what do you feel our new offensive line’s strengths will be for the 2017 season?
— Phillip Taylor

Durability, for one. Riley Reiff has missed only three games over the past four seasons and Mike Remmers didn’t miss a game as a starter for Carolina the past two seasons. If those trends continue, that alone will be a major upgrade compared to what this team went through last season. I also like the versatility of this group. Both Reiff and Remmers have Toronto Blue Jays Canada Day Jersey played both left and right tackle, Joe Berger can play all three interior spots, Jeremiah Sirles can play three spots and third-round pick Pat Elflein played both guard and center at Ohio State. Finally, I like this group’s athleticism and ability to put blocks on defenders at the second level and in space.

Besides Laquon Treadwell, which wide receiver is standing out in OTAs so far?
— Jermaine
@LYRCH21

If you’d let me choose Kyle Rudolph, he’d be my answer. He’s obviously listed as a tight end, but I love how he’s looked catching the ball from Sam Bradford this offseason. But if you’re going to be a stickler with the rules, I’ll lean toward Michael Floyd and Jarius Wright. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to seeing him play well as a member of another team, but I’m still dealing with the novelty affect when I see Floyd out there catching passes for our team. He’s a physical, big-bodied target who can help everywhere on the field and who should be a physical presence as a run blocker, too. Wright is just so versatile and he always seems to be doing something good when the ball goes his way. He’s also one of my favorite personalities on the team.

Choosing Rudy, Floyd and Wright is not to take anything away from how our two leading returning receivers – Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen – have looked. Diggs and Thielen have been on point this offseason, too, but I thought it’d be fun to talk about a few other targets in this space.

Mackensie Alexander didn’t get much time on the field last year, but nonetheless I’m a big fan of his. Seems like a smart, talented and humble guy. I know he’s expected to compete for the starting nickel cornerback position this year, but I haven’t seen much footage of him through OTAs. How’s he looking
— Paul
Santa Barbara, CA

Alexander hasn’t been the only one taking snaps with the first-team defense at nickel cornerback, but from my standpoint he’s looked improved when he’s been given those opportunities Troy Tulowitzki Jersey. Head coach Mike Zimmer stated earlier this offseason that he’ll have the chance to win that job, and I think we’ll know a lot more about his prospects for doing so once we get to Mankato and the pads come on. Athletically, he has the ability to play. But there’s more to it than athleticism and movement skills. This will be a position battle Kevin Pillar Jersey to watch during training camp. The good news is that Terence Newman is in the fold if something happens to Alexander’s ability to play inside.

Keeping Terence Newman was a detriment to Trae Waynes. He’s not the future. Waynes and Laquon Treadwell are no different…still almost like rookies. Wasted first-round picks. How do you expect them to contribute if they aren’t put out on the field?
Josh Donaldson Jersey
in Miranda

Wrong. Having Newman on the roster these past three seasons (and hopefully in 2017) has been a boon for every defensive back on the roster and especially for the young ones like Waynes, it’s been an advantage for Zimmer, and it’s been a benefit for the entire defense and the locker room. He’s a consummate pro, he knows Zim’s defense better than any other player and, according to Pro Football Focus, he’s as good a cornerback as there is in Joe Carter Jersey the NFL, even at his advanced age.

But Paul does make a good point that both Waynes and Treadwell may have had their development stifled a bit by not playing in games as much as some other rookies. That will change this year because both guys have a chance to earn prominent roles this season.

Is there anyone in the trenches who is surprising you throughout the OTAs?
— Blake Dufner
Richmond, MN

You have to take this with a grain of salt because all we’ve seen is practices with players in shorts and helmets. It’s a whole other level of evaluation and observation when the pads come on. With Jose Bautista Jersey that being said, undrafted rookie free agent DE Tashawn Bower has impressed and I think DT Shamar Stephen appears to be in good form.

Joe Carter Jersey for Sale Early Assessment Predicts Diggs to Pro Bowl

July 6th, 2017

As many teams, including the Vikings, have wrapped up Organized Team Activity practices and are heading into the next phase of the offseason, media members are making early assessments of rosters around the league.

Most recently, NFL.com writer Marc Sessler wrote an article that projects a player from each NFC team that will receive his first career Pro Bowl Jose Bautista Jersey nod. For the Vikings, he predicted wide receiver Stefon Diggs to be voted into the all-star game. Sessler wrote:

Diggs finished last season with 903 yards off 84 grabs despite suffering a Week 4 groin injury that held him back the entire way. Considering that he piled up 372 yards over those first four tilts, it’s tantalizing to imagine what a fully healthy Diggs could have pulled off […] Along with Diggs, [defensive end] Danielle Hunter is a strong bet to earn Pro Bowl honors if he continues to shine on defense.

And for Minnesota’s NFC North rivals? Sessler opined that Packers outside linebacker Nick Perry, Lions cornerback Josh Donaldson Jersey and Bears center Cody Whitehair could all make their first Pro Bowl appearances.

Vikings College Scouting Coordinator Kelly Kleine featured on Sporting News

It’s not only Vikings players that are being recognized by the media as of late.

On Tuesday, Sporting News columnist Alex Marvez highlighted Kelly Kleine, whom the Vikings recently promoted from college scouting assistant to college scouting coordinator. He said that the move made Kleine “one of the most preeminent members of the 14 women who work for NFL teams in football operations.” Marvez wrote:

Sporting News has learned that Kleine was promoted earlier this week from her role as a college scouting assistant. Based on how much Vikings [General Manager] Rick Spielman has asked Kleine to handle, the bump was well earned.

“She does about 1,000 different things to say the least,” Spielman told Marvez in a phone interview. “She basically has her hands in all day-to-day operations on the personnel side.”

Marvez said that Kleine’s accomplishments stand out in a “predominantly male profession.”

Her advancement Troy Tulowitzki Jersey in five years with the Vikings — she began with an internship Joe Carter Jersey in public relations before transitioning to one in scouting prior to the 2013 draft — is especially impressive considering Kleine had never played or coached football previously.

Spielman said that was never a detriment.

“The biggest thing when you’re trying to bring anyone up through an organization is to educate and train them,” Spielman told Marvez. “One thing we always try to identify are self-starters who have the work ethic and attention to detail where you can trust them to carry out whatever assignment is given them.”

Added Spielman: “In our eyes, it’s not about being a man or woman or what religion or race you are. It’s who is the most Toronto Blue Jays Custom Jersey qualified regardless.”

Rhodes Closed

Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes had a number of highlight performances last season – including returning an interception 100 yards for a touchdown – that earned him his first career trip to the Pro Bowl.

One of his most impressive games was arguably in Week 4, when the Vikings hosted the Giants.

According to Pro Football Focus, Rhodes restricted Giants receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. better than any other cornerback during the 2016 season. In that game, Beckham was targeted seven times and made just three catches for Russell Martin Jersey a total of 23 yards. Not only did Rhodes keep Beckham out of the end zone, but he also nabbed one of his career-high five interceptions that night.

Bud and a Budget Kevin Pillar Jersey Cheap Garage Sale

June 7th, 2017

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — There Kevin Pillar Jersey was a slight drizzle Wednesday as Bud Grant opened his 13th annual garage sale.

Grant had just praised the gathering on his driveway, calling them “the heartiest bunch” for enduring the wet conditions. They responded by serenading Grant, who turns 90 years old on Saturday, with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

The mood then turned serious as Grant blew his orange whistle to mark the opening of his garage sale — and enthusiastic fans made a beeline for Grant’s old souvenirs and memorabilia.

There was no mistaking this year’s hot item, a bobblehead of Grant in his coaching Russell Martin Jersey gear with his former hunting dog, Boom, by his side.

The one-of-a-kind collectible was going for $150, but that was out of my price range.

Looking to have some fun at the sale, which Grant said will be his last, I showed up with a crisp $100 bill and an eye for odd items.

I wanted to see what all I could get with a single Benjamin. Call it visiting Bud on a budget.

That meant that a pair of blue seats from the Metrodome were out. They had a price tag of $300. I also couldn’t leave with a street sign of ‘Bud Grant Way,’ which is located in downtown Minneapolis next to U.S. Bank Stadium Ryan Goins Jersey.

As I browsed Grant’s array of Custom Blue Jays Jersey goodies, I decided I wanted items that signified what the Vikings were about — gritty, distinctive, different.

Kind of like Grant, whose tough-minded demeanor was on display in January 2016 when he walked to midfield in only a polo before the Vikings Wild Card game. It was minus-6 degrees at kickoff, with a wild chill of minus-25.

After making a few laps, I settled on four items that totaled $91. (Bonus points from my boss for sticking to my budget).

Item No. 1: Metrodome cup

Price: $1

This retro cup didn’t even have a price tag on it when it caught my eye. It was mine when they told me it was 100 cents, mainly because it features interesting facts about the dome on it. I might use it as a change jar.

Item No. 2: Vikings sweatpants

Price: $15

Made in 1996, these light grey sweatpants might be a size too big. No matter. It’s tough to beat the Champion brand. They’ll be perfect for fall walks around the Chain of Lakes.

Item No. 3: Vikings helmet cut from Metrodome roof

Price: $30

One of the quirkiest items I came across was one of my favorites. The helmet is cut from the roof membrane of the dome and comes with a certification of authenticity. This unique item was a more cost-effective memento of a stadium that hosted Vikings games, Super Bowl XXVI, two World Series and an NCAA Men’s Final Four than the pair of seats.

Item No. 1: Nordic-style Vikings horn

Price: $45

I came back to this item three times before I decided to go with it. It sits on a hollowed out wooden base, and the open part of the horn features a gold trim. It screams ‘Man Cave.’

Kevin Pillar Jersey Sale OTAs Important for Vikings Offensive Overhaul

June 7th, 2017

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The wheels overhauling the Vikings offense for 2017 have been in motion but are about to hit another gear.

Minnesota will start its first of 10 organized team activity practices next week, allowing coaches and players more activity time on the field to implement what they’ve been discussing in meeting rooms and briefly in on-field sessions for about a month during the voluntary offseason program.

The OTA practices also are voluntary and will culminate with a mandatory minicamp June 13-15. The offense will be able to challenge a defense that remains mostly in tact after ranking third in the NFL in yards allowed and sixth in points allowed last season.

The next few weeks are important and valuable, particularly for Vikings Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur and quarterback Sam Bradford, as well as returning players and new additions. Shurmur and Bradford previously worked together in St. Louis and Philadelphia, but this will Custom Blue Jays Jersey be the first offseason program for each in their respective capacities in Minnesota.

Shurmur joined the Vikings in 2016 as tight ends coach. He became offensive coordinator during the season, helping Bradford quickly mesh in Minnesota after the quarterback was acquired via a trade eight days before the season opened.

Citing the offseason that Kyle Rudolph had a year ago before posting 83 catches Marcus Stroman Jersey, 840 yards and seven touchdowns, Shurmur told Vikings.com’s Mike Wobschall that the full offseason will be helpful to all players.

“You look at any player, I think Kyle Rudolph had a great year last year because he had a very productive and healthy offseason that kind of was a segue into the fall,” Shurmur said. “The same can be said for Sam. He got here in the fall and had to quickly, I mean, there was a bunch of things running parallel – get used to the system, get used to the players, get used to our culture.

“Now he gets a chance, with the team that we have kind of compiled, to get to know everybody at the right pace, at the right settings, and hopefully it’ll make a difference in the fall,” Shurmur added.

Despite the challenges that Bradford and the Vikings offense faced last season, the quarterback set a single-season NFL record for completion percentage (71.6), passed for 3,877 yards and had a 4-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

“He’s an outstanding leader, he’s a tremendous decision-maker, which shows up, he doesn’t throw a bunch of interceptions, and he’s actually more aggressive down the field than Kevin Pillar Jersey he gets credit for,” Shurmur said. “He’s an extremely accurate passer, which we’ve seen – short, intermediate and long – and accuracy really goes into two boxes, there; there’s the ball placement and then the touch.

“I think he has both of those,” Shurmur continued. “And then I think he has a sense of timing – he understands when routes are going to come open, he’s a pro, he’s had to learn multiple offenses. Fortunately for Sam, this is the third time we’ll be together. As offenses develop and change, he’s kind of at ground zero of this year’s process, which will help.”

The Vikings made multiple changes to the offensive line and running back positions this offseason. Minnesota signed free agent tackles Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers and drafted center Pat Elflein. The team also signed running back Latavius Murray and drafted Dalvin Cook.

The moves could help the quarterback position in multiple ways, Shurmur said. One of the first things for the Vikings is to develop continuity up front.

“Ideally, you’d want to get your five offensive linemen together and established as quickly as possible so that they can work Ryan Goins Jersey together,” Shurmur said. “Because one of the big elements of offensive line play is working together and getting to know how the guy next to you plays and the little non-verbal stuff that happens, the communication that happens. So, that’s ideal, but we have some competition going on … we just have to see how it shakes out.”

Shurmur said running backs will be tasked with multiple responsibilities and he thinks depth and versatility will be quite helpful.

“I’ve said before, it kind of takes a village at running back,” Shurmur said. “Ideally, if you have a running back that’s very good at running the football – so he’s got vision and collision balance, and he understands the importance of ball security – but then also he can catch the ball, and also is proficient at pass protection. That’s what you’re looking for, is a guy who can do all three things. Because then as a play-caller, it doesn’t matter who’s in there – they can run it if you want to run it, if you want to throw them the ball, they can catch it, and when they’re asked to pass protect, they can do that as well. So if you have a few guys in the room that can do those three Russell Martin Jersey things, then that’s ideal.”
